Official records
Texas LegislatureMay–September 2023
The Texas House adopted H.R. 2377 on 27 May 2023, preferring 20 articles of impeachment against him as Attorney General. He was suspended from office pending trial.
Outcome: The Texas Senate, sitting as a Court of Impeachment, acquitted him. The judgment records that no article of impeachment was sustained — no article reached the 21 votes required — and he was reinstated as Attorney General. Four articles held in abeyance were dismissed; the judgment states that dismissal is a final decision by the Senate and does not itself constitute an acquittal of those charges. Texas Legislature — H.R. 2377 ↗Texas Ethics Commission2008
Sworn complaint SC-2612257 concerned how political expenditures made by credit card, made with personal funds, and made as reimbursements were reported on campaign finance reports covering January 2005 through the 2006 general election. The commission found credible evidence of violations of the Election Code and of commission rules. The order records that corrected reports were filed in response to the complaint.
Outcome: A $200 civil penalty by agreed resolution, consented to by the respondent. The commission states the order is a final and complete resolution of the complaint. (12 March 2008) — Texas Ethics Commission — Order SC-2612257 ↗
Texas Ethics Commission — Order SC-2612257 ↗Texas State Securities Board2014
Order No. IC14-CAF-03 found that he was paid a share of asset-management fees for soliciting three clients for a state-registered investment adviser in 2004, 2005 and 2012, at times when he was not registered as that firm's investment adviser representative — a violation of Section 12.B of the Texas Securities Act.
Outcome: A reprimand and a $1,000 administrative fine, by consented order, with an undertaking to give any future solicited client written disclosure of the adviser, the relationship and the compensation terms. (2 May 2014) — Texas State Securities Board — Order IC14-CAF-03 ↗
Texas State Securities Board — Order IC14-CAF-03 ↗How we know this is the same person: This order names "Kenneth Warren Paxton, Jr." — the given names in the reverse order from other official records — and identifies the person by a registration number and a McKinney address, without stating any public office. We attach it on two corroborations: his official Attorney General biography states he ran his own law firm in McKinney for 14 years, and the 2023 impeachment record refers to the same Securities Board registration matter. Readers should weigh that basis themselves.
