What this office does
Commissioners Court is the main governing body of the county: five elected officials — the county judge, elected countywide, and four commissioners, each elected from a separate precinct. Together they decide how county tax dollars are spent and what services the county provides: setting county budgets; overseeing roads, bridges and other infrastructure; supporting public safety, health and emergency services; planning for flood control and disaster response; managing parks, libraries and community centers; and encouraging economic development. In unincorporated areas, precincts maintain roads and run infrastructure projects directly.
