What this office does
The County Clerk keeps Harris County's public records: recording and indexing real property documents, issuing birth and death certificates and marriage licenses, and filing assumed name (DBA) certificates and military discharge records. The Clerk also serves as clerk for Commissioners Court, the Probate Courts and the County Civil Courts at Law. In Harris County the Clerk is additionally the chief election official, conducting special, primary and general elections for the county and other governmental entities in the area.
