The city council is authorizing Houston to apply for a grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to fund air quality monitoring for fine particulate matter (PM 2.5). The ordinance also allows the Director to represent the city in the application process and to accept and spend any awarded funds.

If the grant is awarded, it would support air quality monitoring equipment or programs in Districts B and I. Residents in those districts could see improved tracking of fine particle pollution in their area.
