Outcome
A motion was made by Commissioner Briones, seconded by Commissioner Ramsey, that the Public Defender’s Office, in accordance with its August 6, 2026 strategic plan, increase its capacity to take at least 50% of indigent defense case appointments by 2031. As the office expands, it should ensure that best practices are met, including workload standards, training, provision of holistic services, recruitment, and retention efforts. The motion carried by the following vote: (5-0)
