What it means for you
A multi-agency working group will review how ALPR data is retained and shared and produce recommended contract changes and a policy framework that individual law enforcement agencies could adopt.
Outcome
A motion was made by Commissioner Ellis, seconded by Commissioner Briones, that Commissioners Court directs OCA to convene a workgroup with the County Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Office as Chair, Constable Offices, and other County law enforcement agencies using ALPR data; The Commissioners Court Offices, Purchasing, the Auditor’s Office, and relevant technical personnel should participate as needed. The workgroup would develop: A proposed amendment to the County’s ALPR agreement, including provisions concerning data retention and sharing, informed by legal review, operational needs, and vendor capabilities; A model ALPR data-use policy for County law enforcement agencies, addressing the five policy areas identified above and outlining considerations for departmental adoption and implementation. The workgroup would then submit the proposed amendments and model ALPR data-use policy no later than February 2027 for Commissioners Court consideration. This working group will not conflict with the Sheriff’s existing working group. The motion carried by the following vote: (3-2)
