What it means for you
Houston property owners in the HISD district will pay a higher tax rate in 2025 — 8.20% more than before — which affects household tax bills and funds the district's operations and debt payments.
Outcome
On motion by board member Gore, with a second by Board Vice President Lemond Flowers, the board voted to approve a resolution adopting the combined ad valorem tax rate of Eighty Seven and Eighty Three Hundredths Cents per each One Hundred Dollars of valuation ($0.8783) for the Houston Independent School District for the 2025 tax year, which is effectively an 8.20% percent increase in the tax rate, and includes the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) rate of Seventy One and Sixteen Hundredths Cents ($0.7116), and an Interest and Sinking (I&S) rate of Sixteen and Sixty Seven Hundredth Cents ($0.1667).
