The City Council would approve official guidelines and loan document forms for a federally funded program that provides low-interest or forgivable loans to help clean up contaminated properties (brownfields) in three Houston neighborhoods. This is the final required step before the city can begin issuing loans under a $1,000,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant the city already received.

What it means for you

Residents in the Fifth Ward, Near Northside, and East End neighborhoods could see contaminated or blighted properties in their areas become eligible for cleanup funding through this loan program. As loans are repaid, the money recycles back into the program to fund additional cleanups over time.
