The Board of Managers approved closing seven HISD elementary schools — Louisa May Alcott, Andrew Briscoe, James D. Burrus, Benjamin Franklin, N. Q. Henderson, Port Houston, and Betsy Ross — along with all their programs, at the end of the 2025–2026 school year. It also approved changing the attendance boundaries for eight other elementary schools to absorb affected students.

Students currently attending the seven schools being closed will need to enroll elsewhere, and their new assigned school will depend on redrawn attendance boundaries for Blanche K. Bruce, Edna M. Carrillo, Matthew W. Dogan, Mario M. Gallegos Sr., John F. Kennedy, Reagan W. Mading, Pleasantville, and Theodore Roosevelt Elementary Schools.
